The Y-Tube Olfactometer – Stem 10 mm | Arm 10 mm is a precision laboratory setup engineered to evaluate insect olfactory behavior under controlled experimental conditions. Designed around a carefully crafted glass Y-tube assembly, the system allows insects to choose between two odor sources, supporting accurate analysis of attraction, repellency, and behavioral preference.
The Y-tube features a 10 mm diameter stem and two 10 mm diameter arms, with a stem height of 60 mm, arm height of 50 mm, and a 45° arm angle. These dimensions are designed to ensure smooth airflow transition, minimize turbulence, and provide consistent movement pathways for insects, improving repeatability and experimental accuracy.
High-quality PTFE air connectors and silicone tubing ensure excellent chemical inertness, preventing contamination or adsorption of volatile compounds and maintaining the purity of odor stimuli throughout experiments.
A dedicated air pump suitable for Y-tube applications provides steady airflow, while two precision air flow control meters (0.1–1 LPM each) allow independent regulation of airflow through both arms. This enables symmetrical airflow distribution and reliable experimental conditions.
The system includes two glass jars for air purification and humidification, which remove unwanted VOCs and condition the airflow to maintain natural insect behavior and experimental consistency. Each jar features a merged inlet and outlet single-head design for simplified connections and reduced leakage.
Additionally, two glass volatile collection jars with merged inlet and outlet ports allow controlled introduction or collection of odor compounds during trials, supporting advanced entomological and chemical ecology research.
This Y-tube olfactometer system is widely used in entomology, chemical ecology, pest management studies, behavioral assays, and insect–plant interaction research. Its modular design ensures easy cleaning, flexible configuration, and dependable performance for academic, institutional, and industrial research laboratories.
