The Y-Tube Olfactometer – Stem 25 mm | Arm 25 mm is a precision laboratory setup engineered to evaluate insect olfactory behavior under controlled experimental conditions. Built around a high-quality glass Y-tube assembly, the system enables insects to choose between two odor sources, allowing detailed analysis of attraction, repellency, and behavioral preference.
The Y-tube features a 25 mm diameter stem and two 25 mm diameter arms, with a stem height of 120 mm, arm height of 80 mm, and a 45° arm angle. These dimensions are designed to ensure smooth airflow transition, reduce turbulence, and provide a consistent pathway for insect movement, resulting in accurate and repeatable behavioral observations.
Chemically inert PTFE air connectors and silicone tubing prevent contamination or adsorption of volatile compounds, maintaining the purity and reliability of odor stimuli during experiments.
An air pump suitable for Y-tube applications delivers steady airflow, while two precision air flow control meters (0.1–1 LPM each) allow independent adjustment of airflow through each arm. This ensures balanced airflow conditions and reproducible experimental results.
The system includes two glass jars for air purification and humidification, which remove unwanted VOCs and condition the air to support natural insect behavior and improve experimental consistency. Each jar is designed with a merged inlet and outlet single-head configuration to simplify connections and reduce leakage.
Additionally, two glass volatile collection jars with merged inlet and outlet ports allow controlled introduction or collection of odor sources during testing, supporting advanced applications in chemical ecology and insect behavioral research.
This Y-tube olfactometer system is widely used in entomology, chemical ecology, integrated pest management studies, behavioral bioassays, and insect–plant interaction research. Its modular design allows easy cleaning, flexible setup, and reliable long-term performance for academic, institutional, and industrial research laboratories.
